This weekend the Otautau Heritage Trust and the Otautau Museum Trust had their annual joint fundraiser, the Otautau Book Sale.
The event is normally held in the Courthouse, but this year, we had a change of venue. The owner of the old drapery building (next to the Central Garage), graciously consented to the use of his building for the weekend.
The building is divided into two large rooms. In former times, one side was a grocery store and the other a drapery business. We easily filled both rooms with our stock of a few thousand books (including magazines and videos). Customers remarked that they appreciated having more space to get around without bumping into other people.
Most folks came on Saturday while the weather was still 'pre-polar blast'. However, even on Sunday people were dropping by to donate books and see if there were more gems to be found.
Approximately $1100 was made on Saturday. This will pay for the rental of tables and then divided in half for the respective trusts.
Thank you to the community for continuing to support us through these economically tough times. We look forward to next year's sale which promises to be bigger and better. And thanks to the owner of the building for allowing us to turn it into a used bookstore for the weekend.
